Undercurrent

The third issue of Undercurrent, a magazine for reflection on films, on the cinema, and on film criticism, features two special sections.

One is a tribute to filmmaker Danièle Huillet, who passed away during the night from Monday, October 9, to Tuesday, October 10, 2006. Contributions come from Jonathan Rosenbaum, the editors of Cahiers du cinéma, Adrian Martin, Chris Fujiwara, and John Gianvito.

The other special section is on Austria. It features articles on the current state of Austrian cinema (by Christoph Huber), on Austrian cinema in the 1960s (by Robert von Dassanowsky), on Austrian filmmakers Otto Preminger (by Miguel Marías) and Michael Glawogger (by Christoph Huber), and on German-born Max Ophuls (by Lutz Bacher), who is included here because of his many links to Vienna. Rounding out the issue: an essay by Larysa Smirnova and Chris Fujiwara on Michelangelo Antonioni's The Passenger.
