| João Canijo, "Blood of My Blood" |
The San Sebastian Film Festival celebrated its 59th edition, as one of the oldest in the world, and welcomed Jose Luis Rebordinos in his debut year as fest head (succeeding Mikel Olaciregui). The official competition showcased the work of 16 directors, with the return of eminent figures such as Kim Ki-Duk, Hirokazu Koreeda, Isaki Lacuesta, among others, and also the works of Terence Davies, Arturo Ripstein, Sarrah Polley or João Canijo. In the parallel section "Zabaltegi" we saw the discovery of best independent cinema, while a deserved attention was paid to the retrospective "American Way of Death — The American Film Noir 1990-2010". In accord with one of the most gastronomy cities, a new section was born — "Culinary Cinema: Film and Gastronomy", presented in collaboration with Berlin Film Festival. (p.p.)
