"Collaborator" by Martin Donovan (FIPRESCI Prize)

The 46th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival was once again for the films and the audience. KVIFF is still undoubtable the biggest cinematic event in Eastern Europe with great hospitality and with a marvellous city full with spas and more. During the well-organized festival days 126.302 tickets were sold, 413 screenings were held and in the competition section there were some remarkable international releases. Among them American Martin Donovan's debut Collaborator won the Prize of the International Critics and leading actor David Morse won the Best Actor award. In the competiton section was also shown the critically acclaimed Slovakian director Martin Sulík's latest movie Gipsy and Restoration by Joseph Madmony from Israel. Restoration was awarded with the Crystal Globe by the international jury headed Academy Awarded director Istvan Szabo. The audience's favoourite was an other local movie, the Czech-Slovakian Nicky's Family by Matej Minac. Kim Ki-Duk, David Morse, Denis Villeneuve and Judi Dench visited Karlovy Vary this year among others. (g.k.)
