Warsaw 2008
24th Warsaw Film Festival. Under the direction of Stefan Laudyn, the 24th Warsaw Film Festival presents a diverse selection of features and shorts from across the world. The opening with Waltz With Bashir (Vals Im Bashir) emphasised its penchant for debut and independent filmmaking, and also for Eastern and Central European films. In addition to its other selections, the festival included a retrospective of Israeli actress Gila Alamagor and Finnish filmmaker Priit Parn. The FIPRESCI Jury considered films form Central and Eastern Europe from across the competitions, whilst the selection FIPRESCI Warsaw Projects gave critics and journalists from the country the chance to hone their skills. The Warsaw Film Festival enjoys particularly committed audiences from across the region and their willingness to support new filmmaking talent gives people the opportunity for discussions with viewers and other filmmakers in an 'A-List' festival atmosphere without the habitual pressure that 'A-List' festivals can often exert.
