Reports:
"Border Post": The Mechanisms of Fear and Strength.
Mahrez Karoui illustrates how Croatian director Rajko Grlic's film depicts the daily routines of an army border post with some nostalgia towards a forever past era where the Yugoslavs, from all the ethnic groups, were called to serve the nation under the same flag.
The Remission of Sins.
Paulo Portugal commends director Susanne Bier's After the Wedding for a very acute and precise tone. Playing with the hard contrast of the rich and famous and of those who settle for almost nothing, it shows that redemption is much harder to come by for the wealthy.
Children from Nowhere.
An analysis of the Hungarian film Iska's Journey by director Csaba Bollok. Not only did it leave a huge mark on the festival audience, Salome Kikaleishvili also believes this documentary-like story should impress you with its dramatics like no other film ever.
Far From Hollywood: American Independent Films at Festroia.
There are two film industries in America today – Hollywood and a system ruled by big studios, while the other consists of numerous independent productions. Dragan Jovicevic assesses the healthy state of American independent films showing at the festival.
The Growing Pains of an Emerging Film Festival.
After the tide went out, Frédéric Coquelin assesses the festival set by the sea and argues that some of the new wave of films was of dubious quality for a competition program.
