Prize-Winner: "Bride of Silence"

Far back in 1967, a few countries in South-East Asia founded the ASEAN Union — nowadays an alliance of mainly economic purpose, between Thailand, Indonesia, Malysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and other states of the region. Selectively, films from these countries arrive at Western festivals. The Bangkok International Film Festival, however, offers a systematic overview. The critics forming our jury consequently focused on the Asean competition. Best film, according to their choice: Bride of Silence (Hat mua roi bao lau), directed by Vietnamese filmmakers Doan Minh Phuong and Doan Thanh Nghia, a film which unfolds the tragic story of a young unmarried mother (Truong Ngoc Anh) in a Vietnamese village 200 years ago.

Bangkok International Film Festival: February 17-27, 2006.
