Mar del Plata 2005
Under the direction of filmmaker Miguel Pereira, the traditional
festival (this year in its 20th edition) tries successfully to slip off
the image as a glamour and star event which earlier directors had tried
to impose, more or, mostly, less successfully. In the kurort of Mar del
Plata, you could see a good selection of international films, and of
course the festival organizers called attention in particular for Latin
American and Argentinean films. The winner of our prize: A Year Without
Love (Un año sin amor) by Anahi Berneri (Argentina). Details
Reports
Sentimental Nudity. Miguel Peirotti sees A
Year Without Love (Un año sin amour), despite the subject
of AIDS and sado-masochism, not as a sex film or a film about sex,
but as a study in self-realisation.
Death Stalks Mar Del Plata. Ronald Bergan had to
face Death in the many films about it that haunted this year's Mar del
Plata festival.
