Details of the prize

Reports:

Dead skin. Cristina Nord perceives El aura, an atmospheric thriller by Argentinian director Fabian Bielinsky, as going "far beyond the limitations of the genre. turning into a profound reflection on the futility of human existence."

I Am Cuba. Renzo Fegatelli welcomes back Humberto Solás, one of the greatest Cuban directors of the revolution, with a film, Barrio, Cuba, which takes a new direction.

The Political Musical: A New Genre? Ronald Melzer enjoys the catchy songs and local colour of Benito Zambrano's Havana Blues, but also recognises a political parable beneath its rock comedy musical surface.

Before The Revolution. Alberto Ramos is intoxicated by the powerful images and grand guignol story of Felipe Cazals' "hyperbolic and brutal" The Citrillo's Turns.

New Chilean cinema: The children of the Jackal? Jorge Morales sees much more of a media operation than a real phenomenon in the attempts to identify a movement among young filmmakers from his country.
