2046.

After its Cannes premiere, the noted Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai presented in Valladolid a re-edited version of 2046. He won the Critics Prize which was awarded also to a short film by Michelangelo Antonioni, The Look of Michelangelo (Lo sguardo di Michelangelo). Details of our prizes

A Rich Programme. Aruna Vasudev writes an overview of the 49th Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid and comments on the selection and the prizes.

A Time For History. Margarita Chapatte on the prestigious documentary section “A Time for History”, now in its 20th year as a festival strand. Home grown films featured heavily in this section and two of them were to win prizes. However, there was representation from documentary filmmaking talent across the world. In fact it was a British film that was to catch the attention of the main festival jury and take first prize.

Maria Querida, a Great Moment. Anne de Gasperi was seduced by two Spanish films: Vicente Aranda's Carmen and especially José Luis Garcia Sanchez' Maria Querida.

Amos Gitai from the Promised Land. Amos Gitai is a troublesome person to Israeli authorities. Promised Land might be his most controversial film yet.
