L'Esquive.
"L'Esquive"

At the Istanbul International film Festival, our jury presented two prizes: to the French film ""L'Esquive" by Abdellatif Kechiche, and to the Turkish film "What's Human Anyway" (Insan nedir ki...) by Reha Erdem. This prize for the best Turkish film is named after the film historian, film critic and scriptwriter Onat Kutlar, and is donated with a sum of 30.000 USD, to be invested in Reha Erdem's next project.

Details of the Prizes

"L'Esquive". The film "looks small, but is great. An enchanting movie about love, life and the things around. And about love for literature", writes Rüdiger Suchsland in his review of the award-winning film.
"What's a Human Anyway..." Engin Ertan reviews Reha Erdem's prize-winning film, which is "sweet, very humanistic and entertaining", and which "is closer to the European way of popular filmmaking rather than the Turkish one."
Eternal Themes of Exile. Annika Gustafsson writes on life in exile and the resulting problems of identity, as expressed in Yesim Ustaoglu's "Waiting for the Clouds" and in the German-Turkish coproduction "A Little Bit of Freedom" by Yüksel Yavuz.
Spoilt Rich Brats ot the West. Bhaichand Patel on the image of teenagers in "Love in Thoughts", "Evil", "Young Gods". "I have no problems if the West is fascinated by the growing up problems of affluent teenagers. We, from the Third World have other things on our mind."
