| "L'Esquive" |
At the Istanbul International film Festival, our jury presented
two prizes: to the French film ""L'Esquive" by Abdellatif
Kechiche, and to the Turkish film "What's Human Anyway" (Insan
nedir ki...) by Reha Erdem. This prize for the best Turkish film is named
after the film historian, film critic and scriptwriter Onat Kutlar, and
is donated with a sum of 30.000 USD, to be invested in Reha Erdem's next
project.
Details of the Prizes 
"L'Esquive". The film "looks
small, but is great. An enchanting movie about love, life and the things
around. And about love for literature", writes Rüdiger Suchsland
in his review of the award-winning film. 
"What's a Human Anyway..." Engin Ertan reviews
Reha Erdem's prize-winning film, which is "sweet, very humanistic
and entertaining", and which "is closer to the European way
of popular filmmaking rather than the Turkish one." 
Eternal Themes of Exile. Annika Gustafsson writes on
life in exile and the resulting problems of identity, as expressed in
Yesim Ustaoglu's "Waiting for the Clouds" and in the German-Turkish
coproduction "A Little Bit of Freedom" by Yüksel Yavuz.

Spoilt Rich Brats ot the West. Bhaichand Patel on the
image of teenagers in "Love in Thoughts", "Evil",
"Young Gods". "I have no problems if the West is fascinated
by the growing up problems of affluent teenagers. We, from the Third World
have other things on our mind." 
On the Waiting List. Julia Khomiakova on the state of
affairs of recent Turkish cinema. 
Chris Doyle, the renowned cinematographer, gave a master
