Fribourg 2004

Santiago Roman.

The Fribourg International Film Festival's intended purpose is to contribute to the promotion of cinema from the South, as well as to the "Crossroads" section favored by some filmmakers from the North. "Days of Santiago" (Dias de Santiago) by Josue Mendez (Peru, 2004), the fictive portrayal of a soldier, won our prize.
Details of the prize

"Days of Santiago". In his review Nelson Hoineff writes: "In his first feature film, Josue Mendez, a 25 year-old Peruvian director, deals with the complexity of a human mind tormented by an endless succession of challenges, by a war which has no beginning, no end, no purpose."
Films from the South. "What is a film from the South?" asks Kamel Ben Ouanes in his report and analyzes some films of the Fribourg program under this point of view.
Fribourg 04. Ramiro Cristobal Muñoz gives an overview on the this-year's edition.
"August Sun". Ashley Ratnavibhushana introduces the Sri Lankan film by director by Prasanna Vithanage.
The Cinema of Central Asia. Fritz de Jong writes about the festival restrospective.
