Berlin 2004
At the Berlinale, we awarded as each year three prizes.
The award for a film in competition went to Head On (Gegen
die Wand) by Fatih Akin, the young German filmmaker of Turkish origin.
In the panorama, Far Side of the Moon (La face cachée
de la lune) by Robert Lepage received our prize. As for the Forum section,
our jury prized The Time We Killed by Jennifer Reeves.

"Head On". In Fatih Akin's film
(Golden Bear, FIPRESCI Prize), two opposite characters are destined to
meet, collide, attract, clash, kiss, fuck, hate, love. Dana

Theo Angelopoulos and Fatih Akin 
"The Time We Killed" "is a beautiful, impressionistic
and deeply personal cinematic poem" writes Mark Peranson about Jennifer

Carpet", the first North Korean film invited to play at Berlinale

"Central Station" (Golden Bear '98) returned to Berlin. Carlos
Brandao on "The Other Side of the Street" 
"Love Relations". Mohammed Rouda compares films
that study relationships between their characters. 
Experimental Cinema. Nabeeha Lotfi attended the International
Forum of New Cinema and writes on experimental films 
Rotterdam-Berlinale Express. The festivals of Rotterdam
and Berlin co-organize a coproduction market. Dana Linssen reports on
this initiative and compares her experiences as critic attending both
events 
Talent Press. Six young critics had been invited to attend
the festival, to make acquaintance with recent world cinema, and to meet
experienced colleagues.
